junk

An example: my extra food storage. I'm always buying food at the store...just in case! I can't believe I'm posting this picture. How embarrassing!

I am a bit of a pack-rat. It is a terrible, terrible habit. It isn't just annoying but I think it really hinders my life in so many ways. The things of life weigh me down. I'm not sure why I tend to hold onto things that I don't really love...just in case. What is really going to happen if I don't have that ugly pair of shorts next summer? Ugh...so pointless.

But....since we start construction on our basement tomorrow -- I was forced to go through all of my junk and really consider why I was stowing all of my unneeded things along with me from home to home. It has been a long time coming, but finally my closet only contains clothes I love and that fit me. I wish I had a picture of the huge pile of bags and boxes being donated on Thursday...or the even bigger pile of garbage that was extracted from my beloved things. Okay, so I could have a picture of all that stuff, but it is way too cold to venture out to the garage and snap a picture. Let's just use our imaginations and, believe me, I did good:)

I really do feel so good...free. I feel so detached from those material things now. I've always wanted to travel lightly and never ever been able to make it happen. I have a long, long way to go in order to rid our home of all of the unnecessary items and to change my lifelong habits-- but FINALLY, I am on my way... :)

Yeah for you! We've been doing the exact same thing in our house...in fact, I was just getting ready to post about it! I've pulled so much out of closets, cupboards, and attic boxes that we're having a garage sale this spring!

Oh, and how exciting about the basement! Can't wait to see some before and after pictures!

Good for you, Amy!!! I am inspired and proud of you all at the same time!
I have done this "huge purge" thing a few times in my married life and it always feels so good! But I am due for another one - pray I get the time and energy to just do it already!!

Have fun with the basement construction, and with your new "freedom"!!

Good Job! I am constantly going through our house and giving things to the Goodwill. It seems like it is a never ending process. It always feels good to get rid of the things we don't need.

Isn't this a great feeling? When we moved up here a few months ago, I was disgusted by all of the STUFF we own! I decided to have a garage sale in the Spring. I guess you won't be stopping by to peek at my junk now. :)

How exciting about your basement!!!

The extra food...that's what I'm actually striving for! I honestly, really hate spending $ on food! So my goal is to have a pile like yours to feed us, because I guess we have to eat. ; )

We really need to clear out here too. What could force me to, hmmm...

Glad you feel free, that's a great feeling!

I do the same too, as if I'm afraid of running out of food someday. It is always good to take stock, clean out, and start fresh. I just don't have the dedication to start right now. =)

Yea for you!! I love cleaning out...and I have been doing a lot of it here. I think it's that whole nesting thing. It just feels so good to get rid of the stuff we aren't using!

How exciting about the basement renovation. I hope it's going well.
