living with boys...

Photo: Attempting to capture a decent photo for our Christmas card. As you can see, it was very successful!

I must admit that I secretly love being the only female in the house. I'm Princess Mama and I prefer to keep it that way:) As much as I love it, the males in this house never cease to make me crinkle up my nose in confusion. They're so strange. I try so hard, but their boy games are very hard to understand for this girly girl. How can they entertain themselves for hours with crashing cars ...or playing games with no rules...or scaring and wrestling each other? They just do things that girls would never do! Some examples...

~My husband rose early a while back and dressed in the dark to go work out at the gym. At the gym, he realized that he had two different shoes on. And these are not just two sort of similar shoes...this is one brown hiker and one white running shoe! Now at this point, any normal person (a female) would have hopped back into the car and ditched the workout for a Starbucks fly-by or something. But no, my husband didn't care and went through his entire workout with mismatched shoes. I think he enjoyed the stares!

~Now Griffin is sort of another story. He's a bit disgusting as everything is edible to him. I'm choosing to believe that it is because he's just a boy, so don't comment here and tell me what your little girl eats. It MUST be the male factor! We also have a term for the type of mess made when Griffin is let loose...we say something has been "Griffinized"!

~I walked in on Parker one day as he was playing in his room in just his underwear. This is probably never a good way to start a story! He was sitting on the edge of his bed with his leg crossed over the other--he probably sees me doing this. But he had his body all contorted and I realized that he was leaning over to be able to see his muscles flexing back and forth. Oh, my....how I wish I had my camera. I'm sure I could have found some use for a shot like that:)

Hahaha, I LOVE the picture! :) Your boys sound so much like mine.

One of my best friends has all girls, and while I think that would be lots of fun too, I always remind her (when she comments how she doesn't know what she would do with a boy)that there is nothing quite like having boys. While I may not understand them,(I'm a girly girl too) they bring me so much joy and laughter...I don't know what I'd do with out them!

Even though I don't have kids yet, I've always thought of myself as a "girl" mom. But seeing how much you adore your boys makes me think I might actually like having one someday (not that I actually get much choice in the matter, haha). Anyway, it's cute how much you embrace their boyishness!

Oh, simply hysterical Amy, just too funny. I've decided that I wished I'd had all boys too. Girls just don't play fair, ack! But then again, I love my Devyn Paige. =) Please keep this stories coming, I love reading about life from Princess Mama's perspective.

By the way, Hudson has now weaned himself off the bottle. Absolutely refuses to drink out of it. But put the breast milk in a sippy cup and we're golden. Good grief!

Love the picture, I can imagine all the giggles that went along with it!

And yes, boys are GREAT. Never a dull moment and always a goofy laugh tucked in there somewhere. : )

Nice Joel! I bet you'll be checking your shoes from now on! That's pretty funny!

Everyone is smiling - that qualifies as a successful picture if you ask me.

Yes, I LOVE this photo! I think you should send this one out - it's just....so....real. And so very joyful! I myself would smile every time I looked at it if it were on my fridge. It communicates so much about your attitude as a parent. And calls us all on to have better attitudes. Oh that we all should smile so sincerely when our boys are monkeying around rather than sitting nicely for a photo! Way to go, Mama!!

Amy, you have me in stitches over here! This is such a great peek into your life surrounded by boys! It was my life, too, up until two years ago, and I still crinkle my nose and shake my head and shrug my shoulders.

The thing I find craziest is when they're wrestling, like tonight, and the boys get hurt over and over, and they're crying one second and then jumping onto each other the next. I'm about to say, "Okay, time to be done!" and they're at it again before I even open my mouth!

Boys. ;)

Oh, yes. My boys just LOVE getting the "Christmas Picture" taken. Not. The two older ones are 12 and 11 and they will cooperate any other time of the year for a candid but for some reason...ugrrr.

Boys are awesome. We are trying to adopt and I am wishing for more BOYS! Hope you get ONE good shot. If not, hey, I think it would be make a fun, interesting Christmas card!

Love it Amy! I'm sure life with boys is a whole different game to be sure, sounds "lively"! I feel the same about having all girls, I can't emagine it any other way. I suppose we're each cut for our portion, isn't it great. Can't wait to get your card.
Love, Sarah

I haven't checked your blog that many times... but occasionally I click the link on Aleah's blog. I'm glad I did today... this post was too funny. Yes boys are completely different! And I too enjoy being the only girl... most of the time. :)

Love the picture too... it's very real.

what a great post! I can't wait to have 2 boys too! I will consider myself the princess mama too. ha ha. I do have a snow princess coat (big giant white long puffy coat!) that will fit the roll just right. boys ARE so funny - thanks for the encouraging post. And THANKS so much for uploading christmas music, your music is totally my daytime listen to music in my house :) HAHA

I love your music selections too Amy. I even went out and bought the Sarah Mclachlan CD you wrote about. I LOVE it. It's the first non-kids CD I've purchased in forever. My husband enjoys it too. Our family has a tradition of driving around to look at Christmas lights at least once a season and Sarah's music will be the perfect background.
