Breaking out the Christmas Music...

Well, I'm sitting here recovering from one heck of a stomach bug that went through three out of the four of us. Oh, my gosh...so bad, so disgusting. Of course, no need for details, but I will say it was the kind that defied gravity...a lot.

My babies are napping and I don't have enough energy to clean my messy house or even an appetite to eat my lunch. So what does one do in this situation? Blog, of course:)

My sister in law, Vicky, is famous for sending really awesome packages at just the right time. As I was laying on the couch this morning, feeling sorry for myself, I heard that delightful sound of the mailman leaving packages at my door. Woo Hoo! In addition to fun Halloween goodies for the boys, Vicky sent along quite a few new Christmas CD's for my collection. What a girl! She sure knows how to make my day! You see, I make a goal every year of not bringing out the Christmas music until November 1st--but I rarely make it. This year is no exception...I just can't help myself, I love it so much! And maybe, just maybe I can blame my cheating on Vicky this year, since she sent the new music a week or so early:))

The Sarah McLachlan album is one of the CD's in the great package. I highly recommend it...if you like her style. I think it is a great addition to our mix. The second to last track, In The Bleak Mid-Winter, reminded me how much I love this classic. The lyrics are just great. Here are a few lines...

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

In the Bleak Midwinter, Christina Rossetti

Speaking of great music - I found Rosie Thomas through you, too. Wow! GOOD STUFF...I'm requesting one of her albums for Christmas - which is your favorite?

We're fighting the bug here at my home, too. So far, it's hit my hubby and 6 year old. Praying that it won't hit the rest of us.

You have such a sweet blog - love it! Blessings!

Hi. This is the first time I've stopped by your blog and was delighted to read your October 24 comments. My mother used to listen to Christmas music every July since it had been too long since the last one and not close enough to the next one.

I love Christmas music, too, and listen to it all season long. I find it's tough to go cold turkey (no Christmas music) once the day is over. I have found that listening to Enya helps fulfill some of the richness and depth I feel from Christmas music.

Question: How do you detach from seasonal music once the holiday has passed?

Arleen

P.S. I don't have a web page, but I'm entering the link to a website I created and maintain about my sister.

It is so good to know I'm not the only one who plays christmas music in October! A girl after my own heart Amy! I'm big on the classics, the "old fashioned" tunes, but I'll have to give Sara M. a listen. I also love Manheim Steamroller. I am SO excited to decorate for Christmas this year in our new house. I have plans for Pottery Barn stockings on the mantel, greenery on the banister, ah the joy of it makes me smile right where I sit. Thanks for making me feel more "normal"
Love you girl!

Okay, I think I wrote a post about this song last year. This cd is amazing, I love it. In fact, I was just thinking the other day about how next week, November 1st, I will listen to this cd and put it on my iPod!!!! Can't wait! I made a rule this year with Josiah that he could not watch Charlie Brown Christmas until Nov1st. I want him to have it to look forward to so the same goes for me!

Yeah! Christmas music! Soon Starbucks will break out the red cups, too! Something must be going around Spokane, because all 6 of us had that flu last week. It IS awful...especially for the little ones who can't always make it to the bathroom. We just moved up here (nice welcome, huh?) and I'm LOVING the hardwood floors in my "new" old house! Nothing that a few Clorox wipes won't clean up!!!

I love Christmas music. I usually start listening to my Cd's early as well. This year I will be burning a CD from Itunes of old classics for my family to listen to.

Glad to hear you guys are on the mend. We've been sick too, but not the stomach-bug kind.

I'll have to check out this CD. I'm with you. I LOVE Christmas music!!!! My husband always looks at me like I'm crazy when he comes home from work in the middle of October and I've got a Christmas CD playing. One of my favorites is Clay Aiken's CD. . . And of course, who doesn't love Bing Crosby at Christmas! LOL :)

How fitting you should mention this. We're using "In the Bleak Midwinter" as one of our interludes during our wedding ceremony in December.
